SHC judges pay surprise visit to Chandka Hospital

Express dissatisfaction over lack of medicines, unsatisfactory state of cleanliness

LARKANA: Two Sindh High Court (SHC) judges, Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar and Justice Khadim Hussain Tunio paid a surprise visit on Wednesday to various departments and blocks of Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and expressed dissatisfaction over lack of medicines and poor state of cleanliness at the hospital.

A Larkana district and sessions judge, Abdul Naeem Memon, accompanied the SHC judges.

The judges visited the accident and emergency centre, Paeds Medicine Hospital, Shaikh Zayed Hospital for Women and other departments of CMCH. They asked patients and their attendants about facilities being made available at the hospital.



The patients and their relatives complained about shortage of medicines, rude attitude of doctors and paramedics, and unsatisfactory state of cleanliness.

The judges directed Medical Superintendent Dr Ali Gohar Dahri to appear before them in Larkana today (Thursday) and bring relevant documents.

CMCH, the 1,500-bed hospital that is claimed to be the largest teaching hospital in upper Sindh, is facing multifarious issues, including mismanagement, ghost and absconding employees, non-availability of medicines and equipment, and shortage of nurses and paramedic staff despite the allocation of a large amount of funds.

For decades, the successive provincial governments failed to improve service delivery at the key healthcare facility in upper Sindh. The hospital has also been marred with corruption scandals.
