779 nomination papers accepted, 59 rejected

Final lists of candidates will be displayed on June 29

FAISALABAD: The scrutiny process of nomination papers filed by candidates of various political parties to contest General Elections 2018 from Faisalabad has been completed. The parties included Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).  Faisalabad District Election Commissioner-I Ali Abdullah Khalid told Express News that 838 candidates filed their nomination papers to contest general elections from 10 National Assembly (NA) and 21 Punjab Province (PP) Assembly seats of Faisalabad District. Of the total, 779 nomination papers were accepted and 59 rejected, he added.

While giving details, he said that 225 nomination papers were filed from 10 NA constituencies and of these, 209 papers were accepted while 16 papers were rejected.

Similarly, 613 nomination papers were filed from 21 PP constituencies of the district, out of which 570 papers were accepted and 43 rejected, he added.

Khalid maintained that objections against acceptance and rejection of nomination papers will be received by June 22 and the same would be decided on June 27.

The election commissioner elaborated that provisional lists of contesting candidates would be released on June 28 and the candidates can withdraw their candidature till June 29. He said the final lists would be displayed on the same day, while the election symbols would be allotted to the contesting candidates on June 30. He pointed out that polling will be held on July 25.
