Pakistan’s role in Yemen conflict

Saudi Arabia has faced harsh criticism from Muslim countries for bombing Muslim civilians in Yemen

ISLAMABAD: Lately, Saudi Arabia has faced harsh criticism from Muslim countries for bombing Muslim civilians in Yemen. Saudi strikes are being conducted under the Islamic military alliance initiated by the country and led by the former chief of army chief, Gen Raheel Shareef. The alliance primarily initiated to protect the interests of Islamic countries has faced questions over Islamic countries bombing other Muslim states.

Questions too were raised on Gen Raheel Shareef’s leadership and as to how Pakistan is going to ensure its neutrality for conflicts that are not regional in nature and involve another Muslim country.

Although no explanations were given regarding Pakistan’s role in the alliance, except the statements by then foreign minister Khawaja Asif who repeatedly implied that Pakistan will remain neutral in all such conflicts.

However, now when the severe human rights violations in Yemen are raising question over Pakistan’s role in the conflict, it is about time that Pakistan cleared the air on its role and stance over the matter and proved its neutrality in the Yemen conflict.
