Staying healthy and fit during Ramazan is important but so is returning to a healthy routine once Eid is over. After fasting for a month, Eid becomes a day of indulgence and delicious feasts. Once the Eid gatherings are all behind us, it is important to return to a healthier routine. Compiled from NDTV, here is a list of seven tips to help you get back on track.

1. Get back into your workout regimen

It takes time to get back into your workout regimen, so start slowly and work your way to your regular routine. If you go all out as soon as Eid has ended, you might put an unnecessary strain on your body that you won’t be able to maintain for long.

Even going for a short walk will make you feel more refreshed and relaxed. As long as you’re sweating, you’re burning calories. The exercise will help you forget the guilt that came with the high-calorie foods you consumed over the Eid holidays.

2. Eat your veggies

Veggies aren’t exactly a fan favourite food but the best way to control and reduce your appetite is to eat your veggies first. Not to mention they are packed with essential nutrients and fibre. Try starting your meal with a bowl of salad or stir fry vegetables.

3. Portion control is key

Eat little and eat often! After all the dinners and lunches where you pile up food in a plate because it’s a special occasion, it’s time to master the art of small portions. Eat little and eat often. Resistance may be a battle but avoid indulging all at once.

4. Avoid the fizzy drinks

It may seem like a great idea to have an aerated drink with your meal to help digest the heavy food but in reality such beverages are loaded with sugar. Juices are a much healthier option.

5. Stay away from the sweets

Eid mornings usually begin with a bowl of Sheer Khurma or Sawaiyan. Even after, you may crave these delicious desserts. Try replacing these sugary sweets with healthier options like fruit. If you give in to the craving, have a date or piece of fruit before you dig in. The natural sugar in the dates or fruit would be enough to satisfy your sweet tooth to an extent and a few bites of your favourite dessert would be enough for you.

6. Don’t overeat

After three days of feasting, it’s time to go back to only eating enough to satisfy your hunger. Pay attention to what your body is trying to tell you and stop eating once you are full.

7. Keep hydrated

Try to establish the habit of drinking a few cups of water every single day. Remaining hydrated is good for your body and mind as it prevents your skin from getting dry and allows you to flush out toxins. Also, drinking a glass of water before your meals can help you to feel fuller and prevent you from overeating.
