Two bakeries sealed for lack of cleanliness

QUETTA: In the last couple of days of Ramazan, the business of bakeries and sweet shops witnessed a huge boom as a large number of people bought items ahead of Eidul Fitr.
People of Quetta loved to arrange Eid gatherings with dry fruits and traditional food, but following the recent trends in other cities, people of Quetta have added bakery items and sweets to their list.
Famous bakeries and sweet shops were seen packed with people buying items for their families.

Eid shopping gains momentum in Quetta

“Eid greetings can’t be complete unless we welcome relatives and friends in our guest rooms and present them sweets and bakery items,” said Abdul Waheed, a resident of Quetta, while buying bakery items and sweet for his family.
People from remote parts of Balochistan have already completed their shopping for sweets and bakery items in Quetta and left for their native cities to celebrate Eid with their families.
A bakery owner, Jameel Kasi, said, “People from other cities completed their shopping of bakery items and sweets before Ramazan 25. During the last five days, people of Quetta and its suburbs were seen rushing towards bakeries and sweet shops.”
“Eid days are the days when we sell a huge amount of bakery items and sweets as compared with the rest of the year. Despite increase in the number of people in our shop, we don’t compromise on quality,” he added.

35 shopkeepers nabbed, 52 shops sealed in Quetta crackdown

On public complaints about lack of cleanliness in the kitchens of most of the bakeries and sweet shops, Quetta Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Farrukh Atique directed his team to launch a crackdown against bakeries and sweet shops who were not keeping their kitchens clean.
On Wednesday night, Quetta Assistant Commissioner Sania Safi along with her team launched an operation and sealed two famous bakeries over lack of cleanliness.
During the operation, dozens of expired cold drink bottles were also seized.
“The bakery owners were selling expired material and sweets. The district administration will not allow anyone to sell flawed edibles to the citizens of Quetta,” said AC Safi.
