KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has arrested former Karachi Development Authority Director-General Nasir Abbas in a corruption inquiry along with two other suspects, Javed Ahmed alias Javed Kancha and Raza Qazalbash.

According to a NAB Karachi spokesperson, Nasir Abbas was taken into custody from the Central Prison, while the other two were arrested from their residences. They have been charged with conducting fake open public auction and tampering with title records of KDA plots worth Rs2 billion for distributing them among their favourites against illegal gratification.

The plots that were illegally distributed were around 400, the spokesperson said, adding that 50 of such plots were in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 6.

Residential plots made commercial

According to the preliminary investigations, Ahmed was a retired KDA official who was reappointed by Abbas.  He was accused of processing forged title records of plots for illegal sanctions. He had allegedly been hand in glove with Abbas in the organised crime of fake auctions and illegal allotments of plots to their blue-eyed persons.

Meanwhile, Qazalbash, who is Abbas's brother-in-law, has been charged with misappropriating properties worth more than Rs200 million through forgery in title documents.  He had allegedly been abetting Abbas in managing illegal profits earned through embezzlement of KDA assets.

The accused will be produced before an accountability court for physical remand, the NAB spokesperson said.
