Passers-by injured by Dolphin Squad

On the coattails of the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old at the hands of the Dolphin Squad on May 29, a man and his two daughters were injured in the crossfire between the force and suspected robbers early on Thursday in Sabzazar.

Muhammad Arfan was passing from the road near Saidpur Bridge of the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) on Multan Road. Four suspected robbers intercepted him near the bridge and started looting valuables at gunpoint. Meanwhile, a team of the Dolphin Squad saw the events unfold and rushed to the spot.

As a result, the robbers fled from the scene and were chased by members of the force which opened fire. Abid Ali and his two children Ayyan Ali, 5 and Fatima Ali, 4, suffered bullet wounds in the ensuing melee.

Local police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and collected forensic evidence from the crime scene and recorded statements of eyewitnesses. Police also launched a search operation in nearby areas to nab the suspects.

An FIR was also registered by Abid Ali at the Sabzazar police station against the incident. Police claimed the victims suffered injuries due to the firing of the suspects, but the injured said the police was responsible.

SP Mobiles and Dolphin Squad Nadeem Khokhar said they would investigate the matter thoroughly.

On May 29, a 14-year-old boy was killed while a suspect was injured after the Dolphin Squad opened fire while in pursuit of a vehicle.

A team from the Dolphin Squad was on patrol near Shadbagh when they spotted five men in a vehicle with a suspicious-looking number plate. Officials signaled the car to stop, but the suspects tried to escape.

While chasing the men, the Dolphin Squad opened fire which resulted on the death of 14-year-old Saleem who was returning after purchasing goods from a nearby store. In addition to this, 25-year-old Atif, who was one of the suspects, also sustained bullet injuries.

In that incident, the police had claimed that the suspects initially opened fire. However, several eyewitnesses held a different view and bystanders claimed that the people in the vehicle did not fire at police.

A large number of protesters, including family members and relatives of the slain teenager, protested on Ring Road. They placed the deceased’s body on the road, blocked traffic and demanded that a case be registered against the officials involved.
