GENEVA: Senior officials from Iran, Russia and Turkey will meet in Geneva on June 18-19 for consultations with the United Nations about setting up a constitutional committee for Syria, UN Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura said in a statement on Wednesday.

He will invite other countries for relevant discussions in due course, the statement said. De Mistura is tasked with picking membership of the committee, which is expected to rewrite the Syrian constitution, paving the way for new elections as part of a post-war political reform.

There have been a massive displacement in Syria, just from January to April there were over 92,000 newly displaced people.

920,000 displaced in Syria in 2018, highest since conflict began: UN

This has been the highest number of displaced people anyone has seen in a while.

It brings the number of people internally displaced in the war-ravaged country to 6.2 million, while there are still some 5.6 million Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries, according to UN figures.

More than 350,000 have been killed, since the clash that took place in 2011, which is a biggest number recorded. A massacre indeed.
