An Asian man assaulted an Arab woman and bit her cheeks as he tried to steal her bag, The Khaleej Times reported.
The incident occurred at 12: 30am on a street in the vicinity of Abu Shagara, Sharjah. The man faces assault and robbery charges in the Sharjah criminal court.

The victim said that the assault occurred as she headed home after a shopping trip. She testified before the court, asserting that the man had initially stopped her for directions to a grocery store. When she guided him to its address, the man thanked her and walked away.
He came back and asked for AED10 and as the victim attempted to hear him out--he pounced. The accused began to bite her cheeks and forehead and repeatedly assaulted her so that she lost her balance. He then grabbed her bag and fled, the victim testified in court. The bag contained her clothes and cell phone.
The accused used the cell phone to call the victim's sister the next day, inquiring about her home address to return the phone. The victim's sister accused him of lying and informed the police, who then monitored his calls.

The police tapped his phone when he called the sister again, pinning down his location and arresting him.
The accused confessed to the crime upon confrontation by the police and was then referred to public prosecution.
The criminal court heard the Sharjah police testimony about the incident. The Sharjah Police witness stated that upon receiving information from the woman, a complaint was lodged. They started an investigation, watching the man's movements on the surveillance cameras in the area. The security camera footage helped to identify and arrest the police, according to the Sharjah Police witness.
