Consequences of melting glaciers

Even if the water flow improves temporarily, in the long run, this would result in even more severe water shortage

PESHAWAR: With the melting of glaciers due to seasonal changes in the northern areas of Pakistan, the Indus River System Authority is looking forward to a favourable situation for the upcoming crop sowing season. Noticeably, this increased water flow in the rivers would not be due to monsoon rainfall but for a consequential factor resulting from the increasing temperatures resulting in the rapid melting of glaciers.

Hence, even if the water flow improves temporarily, in the long run, this would result in even more severe water shortage, because of the absence of both glaciers and monsoon rainfall.
