Eidul Fitr prayers: Over 4,500 cops to provide security in Pindi

Security plan for federal capital finalised will beef up security at public places

RAWALPINDI/ ISLAMABAD: Police in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have devised comprehensive security plans for the Eidul Fitr holidays with the latter to see over 4,500 armed policemen deployed throughout the city to ensure stringent security at shopping centres and at places of worship.

According to a Rawalpindi police spokesperson, cops will patrol various sectors of the city while officers deputed to different circles will ensure security at Eid congregations in their respective areas.

In this regard, the officer said that walkthrough gates and metal-detecting scanners would be installed on the gates of Eid gahs for the safety of citizens.

Moreover, volunteers will also be deployed on the occasion. To check suspicious vehicles entering and exiting the city, the police official said that they had set up special pickets at all the entry and exit points of the city.

Meanwhile, security at Rawalpindi Railway Station has also been beefed up to ensure a safe and secure journey for passengers.

An official told APP that police in plain clothes have also been tasked with checking security and keeping an eye on suspicious activities.

Capital security plan finalised

Police in the capital has drafted a security plan for Eidul Fitr which will see security beefed up at key public places, places of worship and other important buildings to thwart any untoward incident.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Najeebur Rehman Bugvi reviewed the final draft of the plan and approved it while chairing a meeting at Rescue 15 centre.

Bugvi said that following directions from IGP Sultan Azam Temuri for the police to remain on high alert and be fully prepared to avert any untoward situation during the Eid holidays, a comprehensive plan has been devised.

In this regard, SSP Bugvi said that armed guards and policemen will be deployed during Eidul Fitr

Hundreds of mosques, imambargahs and several other religious congregation sites will be covered by armed guards and policemen during Eidul Fitr prayers.

Policemen would also patrol various sectors.
