Funeral prayers offered for martyred Rangers official
Hawaldar Ilyas was killed Wednesday night during operation in Korangi area

The funeral prayers for a Rangers official, who was martyred on Wednesday in an armed attack in the Korangi neighbourhood, were offered on Thursday at the Sector Headquarter Bhittai Rangers.
Karachi Corps Commander Lt Gen Shahid Baig Mirza, home secretary Qazi Shahid Pervez, Sindh Rangers Director-General (DG) Maj Gen Muhammad Saeed, Inspector-General of Police Allah Dino Khowaja, Karachi Additional IG Mushtaq Mahar and a large number of Rangers and police officers and personnel attended the funeral prayers of Hawaldar Ilyas.
The body was later sent to his hometown Khushab for burial. After the funeral, the Rangers DG visited the Combined Military Hospital, Malir to enquire about the Rangers personnel, Ibrahim and Ameer, who were injured in the exchange of fire. Maj Gen Saeed lauded them for their bravery.
Rangers recover weapons dumped underground in Karachi
Ilyas was martyred during an operation launched by security forces on Wednesday night in the densely populated Ilyas Goth neighbourhood in Korangi. According to a Rangers spokesperson, the security forces troops conducted a raid in Ilyas Goth on a tip-off regarding the presence of a target killer, Shafiq alias Kala, and his companions. The culprits opened fire on the Rangers troops, resulting in the martyrdom of Ilyas and injuries to Ibrahim and Ameer.
The paramilitary force, however, managed to arrest Shafiq along with two other suspects, Aleemuddin and Shahbaz alias Osama. It was reported that Shahbaz had opened fire on the troops and he was injured when the Rangers returned fire. The injured suspect was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
A case has been registered for the incident while further investigations are under way.
