They made these remarks during a seminar titled ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ held to mark the International Environmental Day in Quetta on Tuesday.

They emphasised on more tree plantation to control global warming, which has “reached alarming levels”.
Balochistan Chief Secretary Aurangzeb Haq, former environment minister Prince Ahmed Ali, Environment Secretary Abdul Saboor Kakar, Environment DG Tariq and members of government and non-governmental organisations were in attendance.
The chief secretary said, “Temperature during summer has reached an alarming level due to rapid changes in our environment.
“More tree plantation and forest protection will prove effective in controlling weather changes in our country.”
Most LG officials in the dark about climate change
On the importance of water storage, Haq said, “People should make it a habit to avoid wasting water while doing daily household chores because a minor change can store water for our future generations as Balochistan can face severe water scarcity in the future.”
On plastic bags’ pollution, former environment minister Ali said, “We have to bring down the usage of plastic bags in our daily life as it causes cancer and spreads pollution in our environment.
“There is a need to create awareness among our people about avoiding usage of plastic bags and the provincial government and district administration should launch awareness campaigns regarding the harm caused by using plastic bags.”
Children from different schools performed in various stage shows on the importance of tree plantation while the chief guest distributed prizes among the students.
