KARACHI: A suspected robber was killed by a citizen in an upscale neighbourhood of the metropolis on Sunday.

According to police, the incident took place near Schon Circle in Clifton where armed motorcyclists were trying to rob a citizen of his camera, while men travelling in an SUV tried to intercept them.

The suspects, however, opened fire and manage to escape. One of the men travelling in the double-cabin Vigo fired back and killed one of the robbers, while his accomplice managed to escape.

According to the Boat Basin police, the suspects were trying to snatch a camera from a citizen, Shahid. The police say the robber was critically wounded and died on way to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

He was later identified as 22-year-old Khan Hussain, a resident of Keamari. He had a criminal record and had been arrested in connection with street crimes in 2011 by the Boat Basin police station.

Police officials say an investigation is ongoing to track the men travelling in the Vigo.
