Pakistan pair clinches badminton title

KARACHI: Pakistani pair of Rizwan Azam and Kashif Sulehri clinched the men’s doubles title in the Maldives Challenge International Badminton Tournament after the duo overpowered Karunaratne Dinuka and Karunaratne Niluka of Sri Lanka in the final in Maldives.

Azam and Sulehri lost the first set 17-21 but made a strong comeback in the fight for the title, winning the next two sets 21-14, 21-14 and win the title.

“They have beaten top seeds and third seeds to eventually claim the title which shows that they must have put great efforts throughout the men’s doubles event,” said senior vicepresident Pakistan Badminton Federation Syed Naqi Mohsin before adding that the federation would hold a reception in honour of the triumphant players on their return.
