Free cardiac treatment

Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences has allocated Rs200 million to its cardiac centre for free treatment for all

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has allocated Rs200 million to its cardiac centre announcing free treatment for all patients including surgeries and stent implantation. Out of the allocated amount issued by the Pims administration to the cardiology department, Rs60 million will be for stents and a total of Rs60 million is being spent on the purchase of cardiac medicines, as the cardiac pharmacy has been opened. Free treatment and stenting of all cardiac patients is being implemented by PIMS administration. Many people cannot afford expensive cardiac care but anyone coming from anywhere will be treated free of cost and any type of heart problem will be taken care of. PIMS ED Dr Amjad Mehmood said the budget being utilised for the treatment is the center’s own budget but it could not be used for the last three years. We are utilising the budget for free cardiac care of patients, and still Rs40 million to Rs50million might go unused.
