French manager Zinidine Zidane has shocked the footballing world by announcing his resignation from Real Madrid.

The 45-year-old recently made history with Los Blancos by guiding them to a third consecutive Champions League title; in an era in which no other team had ever won back-to-back titles before.

Zidane announced his decision in an impromptu press conference at the club’s training ground.

“The team needs to continue winning and needs a change,” said the outgoing manager.

There had been speculation about Zidane’s future all season, with Real Madrid finishing a whopping 16 points behind Barcelona in La Liga, but the Champions League final win had meant he was sure to keep his place in the dugout if he so pleases.
