Two separate bomb attacks in Akora Khattak and Jalozai areas.
PESHAWAR:
At least one person was killed and nine others, including two police officials, were injured in two separate bomb attacks in the Akora Khattak and Jalozai areas of Nowshera district on Thursday.
The first attack targeted a police mobile in the Akora Khattak area; while in the second attack unidentified assailants lobbed grenades on the administrative office of the Jalozai Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp.
District Police Officer (DPO) Nowshera Quraysh Khan said that suspected militants targeted a police mobile parked on a thoroughfare.
Khan said that it was Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and that the blast killed a local elder and injured two policemen in the police mobile. “It was a planted bomb targeting the police van,” he said.
According to Khan, the injured included the driver of the police vehicle and a constable. The deceased, who was a passerby, was identified as Shamsul Qamar.
There was another attack in Akora, five hours after the attack on the police mobile, when some unidentified assailants attacked the administrative office of the Jalozai IDPs Camp near Pabbi, bordering Peshawar.
A security guard standing in front of the office of the camp administrator sustained injuries in the attack.
The Bomb Disposal Squad officials visited the spot, but could not confirm whether it was a remote-controlled bomb or a hand grenade, said camp administrator Noor Akbar, adding that one person was injured in the attack. However, local police claimed two persons were injured in the attack.
Police records suggest increasing terrorist activities in Nowshera district. Officials say 11 bomb attacks in the last three months had left 15 people dead and destroyed five schools in the district.
