FAPUASA appeals to CJP to take suo motu notice

‘Vice chancellors discriminating against faulty members for voicing concerns’

LAHORE: The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar to take notice suo motu notice of the victimisation of faculty members at different universities across the country.

Association members expressed these views during a press conference held at the Lahore Press Clun on Wednesday. They also highlighted the various grievances faced by the teaching community.

FAPUASA President Dr Kaleemullah Bareech revealed that faculty members at several varsities were being victimised for raising their voices and concerns about the less than savoury practices of their vice chancellors.



He demanded that removal notices be withdrawn and an inquiry be launched against the teachers at the University of Sargodha.

Most of the VCs of public sector universities were involved in corruption, illegally appointing faculty, while those who were raising their voices against such practices were being discriminated against.

He condemned the actions of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) president who issued a show cause notice to Dr Shahzad Ashraf for speaking up about illegal appointments and corruption at the institute. Further, he also asked how the IIUI administration had suspended Dr Mubeen Siddiqui’s salary.

We cannot tolerate the economic murder of teachers. We demand that Dr Siddiqui’s salary be released immediately,” he emphasised.

FAPUASA Punjab President Dr Javed Ahmed stated that incompetent VCs have spoiled the teaching and research environment in universities.

Using falsified information and baseless accusations, the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act is being enforced to weed out dissenting members, he articulated.

The UoS VC terminated Muhammad Farooq’s contract and initiated an inquiry against Dr Ghulam Yassin under the act. The VC should revise his orders otherwise we will launch a protest against him after Eid, he maintained.

FAPUASA Islamabad President Dr Shehzad Ashraf said  members were on their way to launch a complaint against these vice chancellors, for their vindictive and malicious behaviour against instructors.

He also voiced his condemnation of the illegal termination of a faculty member at COMSATS University, whose head is currently facing plagiarism charges. The biased appointment of the varsity’s registrar as   an inquiry officer to probe the conduct of the VC at Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD), reflected the sorry state of affairs.

Association representatives of several Punjab and federal chapter universities demanded the President and the Chief Justice take notice of the situation.
