Two traffic wardens gunned down, assailants meet fate in Quetta

Police party reached site soon after incident, swept area and encountered the culprits

QUETTA: Two traffic police personnel were martyred by two unidentified suspects while both the attackers were killed in retaliation soon after the incident by police in the Sirki Road area on Sunday.

According to police sources, the victims were performing their duties when unidentified suspects riding a motorbike opened fire at them on Sirki Road, killing them on the spot. Soon after the incident, the police force reached the site, conducted a quick search and found both the suspects.

As soon as the police party signalled the culprits to stops, they opened fire on them.

An encounter ensued in which both the suspects were killed.

The bodies of the traffic police officers were shifted to civil hospital where they were identified as Abdul Rasheed and Bashir Shah.

Reportedly, four passersby were injured in the exchange of fire between the police and the culprits in the Sirki Road area, and were shifted to civil hospital for medical treatment. The injured victims were identified as Muhammad Shafiq, Khuda-i-Dad, Haji Akhtar and Janan.

Police cordoned off the entire area and further investigation is under way. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Quetta Abdul Razzak Cheema visited the site for inspection.

"The citizens should help us too in the war against terrorists so that we defeat terrorism," he said while talking to the media. "I appeal the citizens to inform us about any suspicious activity like this," he added.
