NAB directed to present witness at next hearing

Accountability court hearing Rs5.76b corruption case in provincial information dept

KARACHI: An accountability court ordered the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) witness to appear before the court on next hearing in a casing relating to Rs5.76 billion corruption in the provincial information department.

The hearing of the corruption reference was held on Saturday at the accountability court in Karachi. Former provincial information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and others appeared before the court. The court inquired from Memon what facilities are available to him at the jail. He said that he has requested an air cooler in jail and that air coolers should be provided in jails across Sindh. The judge expressed his satisfaction with this news.

Memon informed the court that Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar visited the jail and hospital administration and praised them for their services.

A request to unfreeze Inaam Akbar's accounts was submitted in the court. The lawyer of the accused said that his client's accounts were frozen by NAB six months ago, which is illegal. A witness for the bureu, Zeenat Jahan, failed to appear before the court. Ordering that her presence be ensured on the next hearing, the court adjourned the hearing till May 31.

Memon, while speaking to the media after the hearing, said the people will decide his fate. If transparent elections take place, the Pakistan Peoples Party will make a clean sweep in the elections for sure, he predicted.
