LAHORE: Security has been beefed up in the provincial capital in order to protect mosques and maintain law and order, said a police official on Wednesday.

More than 12,000 officers will be deployed outside mosques, bazaars and public and private buildings during Ramazan to avoid any untoward incident. In addition to this, snipers have also been stationed on the rooftops of some mosques, he informed.

All SPs have been directed to visit their respective areas to review security arrangements.

Further, mosques have been asked to set up walk-through gates, metal detectors, CCTV cameras and to hire four to five private security guards, while also making sure the area remains well lit, he maintained.

Policemen have been directed to keep a vigilant eye on suspicious elements and activities, he added.
