‘Those who were trying to divide Sindh, now stand divided themselves’: Murad Ali Shah

Murad Ali Shah stands by his anti-division remarks

KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said that he has always promoted the politics of brotherhood, fraternity, equality and humanity but some people are trying to earn political sympathies by advancing arguments of hatred and divide.

This has no space in this megalopolis of Karachi any longer, he said.

Murad made these remarks while speaking to the media during his visit to heatstroke centres set up by the district administration along road sides all over the city. He was accompanied by provincial ministers Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Saeed Ghani, Principal Secretary to the CM Sohail Rajput and Karachi Commissioner Ejaz Ahmed Khan.



Murad said that some people are once again trying to ignite the flames of hatred and divide in Karachi but "this is now history — you destroyed this city and we have reconstructed it again, you divided the people on linguistic and sectarian grounds and we inculcated the spirit of fraternity among them, you destroyed the institutions and we are rebuilding them - that was your time and this is our time and our time is of prosperity and unity because we have restored peace in this city".

The chief minister went on to say, "Our time will last for a long time because we serve the people and the people of this city believe in us, therefore they are with us." He added that the people of Karachi were well-educated and know who will lead them on the path of development and prosperity.



"I am sorry that my words have been taken in such a way but I am clear on the fact that those who were trying to divide Sindh, now stand divided themselves. Sindh is our motherland and nobody, whether they are Sindhi speaking or Urdu speaking, will ever allow the division of their motherland," said Murad. He added that now nobody can sell the narrative of divisions and hatred in Sindh.

Talking about his visit to the city, he said that he wanted to inspect the heatstroke centres set up by the district administration. "I am satisfied that the necessary facilities have been provided at the centres and also met the people present there and listened to their grievances," Murad said, adding that the people of the city are strong and are enjoying the fruits of the peace restored in the city.

The chief minister visited heatstroke centres established in districts East and South and met people there.

He also visited Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and inspected the wards set up for heatstroke patients. Briefing the chief minister, JPMC Executive Director Dr Seemin Jamali said that the ratio of heatstroke patients was not more than four per day. When the chief minister was leaving the hospital a patient suffering from heatstroke was being brought in. Murad assured him that he would be treated properly at the hospital.
