LAHORE: With elections nearing, the ECP has a gigantic task to organise and conduct the elections across the country. In a country with a population of over 200 million, the body certainly requires a significant number of trained personnel to ensure smooth and transparent elections. Further, due to repeated poor management of the exercise, the Election Commission for most of the time is grilled for failing to control poll rigging.
Alongside these issues, the ECP, according to reports, is now short of staff and that too of the most important categories, the senior grade officers. This puts a question mark on how well prepared the ECP is to conduct the biggest election exercise in the country and how it has been operating with important managerial posts lying vacant.
