Sindh Education Board

Letter May 23, 2018
The situation is unlikely to change unless the entire board of education and its workings are revamped

KARACHI: In the Sindh Board of Education, quantity matters more than quality. In other words, the weight of exam copies and decorated headings matter more than what’s written in those copies. Moreover, unfortunately, marks are awarded not for one’s answers to the questions but for how well the examiner is served and bribed. This is perhaps one major reason why Pakistani students struggle and eventually fail whenever they appear for tests for admission to universities here and abroad.

No wonder then that the quality of education and the literacy level in Sindh have only deteriorated constantly over the past few years. The situation is unlikely to change unless the entire board of education and its workings are revamped with levels on a par with those of any other competitive examination authority. The provincial education board can possibly introduce changes in the examination system and conduct them in alignment with other provincial education boards.
