Water and agriculture policy

With rising temperatures, agriculture produce too might be drastically reduced

LAHORE: Given the severity of water crisis, rapidly drying water resources and by extension of it the resulting loss of the agriculture produce, water and agriculture policy should be the priority of all political parties intending to contest the general elections. In a new report, only 10 per cent of the water flowing down the rivers in Pakistan is preserved and stored whereas the rest flows into the sea. With reducing storage capacity and rising temperatures, agriculture produce too might be drastically reduced over the next few years.

Where political parties are releasing their plans for their post-election agenda, it is important that packages for farmers and crop production take prime importance in party manifestoes.
