A long walk for Pakistan: Mahira Khan prepares for Cannes red carpet debut

In a recent interview with India Today, Mahira was asked how India and Pakistan can get rid of the obstacles and come together, as Pakistani artists are banned in India but still bonding with Bollywood celebrities abroad.

The Pakistani beauty replied, "Art lessens differences - whether they are created through history or politics. By way of art, we start realising that we - Indians and Pakistanis - are much more similar than we are different."

Mahira added that people from both the nations even share the same kind of language. "Globally, when we interact with each other at such international festivals, we learn that there are not a lot of differences."

She further shared that when she met Aishwarya in Cannes, the latter gave her a "long, warm hug" and talked about their respective children. Even Sonam planted a kiss on Mahira's head, thereby creating one of the most viral photographs to come out of the festival.

Mahira stated, "Since there are barely any differences between our people, I feel that we should still collaborate when it comes to films and music." However, speaking of the constant tension between the two countries, she added that at the end of the day, "India-Pakistan is STILL India-Pakistan."

The 33-year-old actor then concluded, "I hope that one day, you don't ask this question. I hope one day, I'm not asked 'What would happen about India-Pakistan'?"

Upon returning from Cannes, Mahira penned an emotional post on Instagram. She wrote, "As I sat in the car on my way to the airport I realised that I felt more empowered than ever before. And the reason was because of the amazing women that I met over the last three days. All these talented women had one thing in common – they lifted each other up. And that is the only (if any) key to success."
