PIA’s unwise tweet

Letter May 23, 2018
Let’s not forget that this is the same airline that has been struggling to pay its dues for the past many years

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airline is not one to stay away from being in news. And the most recent of its tweets has garnered much backlash that has once again brought it in the columns of the mainstream media.

As the world finished live streaming the Royal Wedding 2018, PIA took it to Twitter to remind everyone of Princess Diana’s trip to northern Pakistan, in a bid to invite the newlyweds to visit the north. Not just that, it in fact offered to take them. First of all, let’s not forget that this is the same airline that has been struggling to pay its dues for the past many years and has been nothing but a burden to the public exchequer of the country. Secondly and most importantly, it is the same national carrier that is infamous for its delays that has kept many of its customers waiting for hours.

In the wake of such conditions, why would the national carrier think it would be wise to offer a trip to the Royals? Gladly, the social media, friendly Pakistanis made it a point to remind PIA of its many failures after it had tweeted the offer. After all, no one would want the newlyweds to be stuck in the recently opened Islamabad International Airport — that has nothing to offer but only incompetency for display — for hours.
