Texas shooting

America’s increasing love for guns with lax gun laws has left many young and innocent people dead

KARACHI: The latest gun violence in the US has left 10 students dead and another 10 injured in a school in Texas. A 17-year-old classmate shot at the students before shooting himself dead. This is proof that the country has failed its youth.

America’s increasing love for guns with lax gun laws has left many young and innocent people studying for a better future dead. It is perhaps not wrong to say that schools in the US are not better than schools in Pakistan in terms of security and safety. And a family who sent their young daughter in an exchange programme to Texas, thinking otherwise, now knows this perhaps too well as they lost their young daughter, Sabika Sheikh, in the Texas shooting on Friday, May 18th.

The gun violence and resultant deaths have become a norm in the US. In spite of all this the authorities in the US continue to ignore the calls for making gun laws more stringent. The vested interest of the US government in the National Rifle Association has and perhaps will continue to kill more and more people in the most prosperous country of the world.
