PM urged to appoint HEC chief  

The demand was made on Sunday by the FAPUASA in a letter to PM Abbasi

ISLAMABAD: A federal association of professors has called upon the prime minister to quickly appoint the chief of the apex higher education body in the country.

The demand was made on Sunday by the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) in a letter to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. The letter pointed out the search committee formed by the government, comprising Islamia University Bahawalpur former vice chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Mukhtar, Professor Dr Tariq Banuri, Professor Dr Iqbal Chaudhry and Professor Dr Anwarul Hassan Gilani had recommended four names for the head of the HEC. FAPUASA said that they had monitored the process and appreciates the four names short-listed for the HEC top seat. The letter further demanded the apex education body, which has a budget of Rs100 million is functioning without a permanent head since April 14.
