ISLAMABAD: Traders in the capital have claimed that ever since the local government was formed, the civic body has allegedly adopted the unhealthy approach of ignoring development works in markets due to which the markets of federal capital were now presenting a dilapidated look.

This was stated by Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Senior Vice President Muhammad Naveed Malik while talking to a delegation of local traders that called on him on Sunday.

ICCI concerned over rising external debt

Malik urged the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to focus on a better development strategy for markets of the capital so that business activities can be sparked and the local economy flourishes.

The ICCI official said that the business community was playing a leading role in the economic development of the city as they were promoting business activities locally, creating new jobs for the public and improving the overall revenues.

CDA, IMC in a fix over recruitments

Hence, he said, it was essential that IMC, CDA and all other relevant local organisations pay urgent attention to the markets and resolve key issues of the business community and to facilitate the private sector so that business activities get a boost in the city and the local economy can further grow.
