Prince Harry's exes attend the Royal wedding
However, that was not the case. According to E! News, the seat was left empty so that the Queen could have an unobstructed view of the ceremony as she sat directly behind it.
While leaving it empty did not pay a direct tribute to Princess Diana, Harry made sure to honour his mother in other ways. On May 4, a statement from Prince Harry's communications secretary was released. It mentioned that the new groom was keen on having his mother's family's involvement in his wedding.
"All three siblings of Diana, Princess of Wales will be in attendance and Lady Jane Fellowes will give the reading. Prince Harry and Ms Markle, both feel honoured that Lady Jane will be representing her family and helping to celebrate the memory of the late Princess on the wedding day," read the statement.
When it came to Meghan's bridal bouquet, the newly-weds opted for Princess Diana's favourite flowers - forget-me-nots. The Kensington Palace revealed that Prince Harry had handpicked the flowers for his bride, a day before the ceremony, from their private garden.
The 33-year-old prince also got emotional when Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer played at the ceremony. The song was also sung at Princess Diana's funeral in 1997.
After Meghan and Prince Harry's engagement in November 2017, the latter stated that his mother and Meghan would have been the "best of friends".
