Fans are excited for Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanjay Dutt biopic, Sanju that’s set to hit theatres on June 29. However, many still await his next Munna Bhai film, reported Hindustan Times.
Earlier installments of the film, Munna Bhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munna Bhai have made their mark on the audience thanks to the hope and happiness that it portrays.
When questioned if the franchise will be making a comeback, the director of the film, Hirani said, “We wanted to do a third Munna Bhai film and even wrote a lot of it, but we were not able to match the script with the first two. Now, I have found something but we still have to write it.” The film-maker penned both of his Munna Bhai films with co-author Abhijat Joshi.
It’s also reported that Dutt will likely be seen playing the lead again along with his sidekick Circuit essayed by Arshad Warsi.
Speaking of the success of the film, Hirani stated, “We were all new and naive at the time. While we were filming Munna Bhai MBBS, we didn’t think we were doing some kind of mainstream cinema. I only knew that I was doing a different kind of cinema. More than its commercial success, it fetched us a lot of love and affection from people. I was happy that my family and friends saw it. That joy itself was enough.”
Hirani also confirmed that the third film will not be called Munna Bhai Chale America which is currently rumoured to be the title of the third installment.
Munna Bhai MBBS was released in 2003 and proved to be a hit amongst the masses. The second installment, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, was released in 2006 and starred Vidya Balan as well.
