Two suspects killed in 'encounter'

KARACHI: At least two suspected robbers were killed on Friday during an alleged encounter with the police in District Central.

The encounter reportedly took place in Buffer Zone Sector 15-A4 near 7C bus stop. According to Taimuria SHO Asif Munawar, the encounter occurred when a police party was conducting routine snap-checking in the area. They intercepted two unidentified suspects on a motorcycle who were allegedly trying to flee after mugging citizens.

According to the SHO, when the police signaled the suspects to stop, they shot at the law enforcers and tried to escape under the cover of fire. However, they were critically injured when the police returned fire. The suspects succumbed to their injuries on their way to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The bodies were shifted to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for want of identification.

The police also claimed to have recovered two pistols, mobile phones and motorcycles from their possession.  A case was registered while further investigations are under way.
