ABBOTTABAD: A division bench of the high court in Abbottabad on Friday upheld a verdict of a lower in a gang rape case.

A two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) comprising Justice Lal Jan Khattak and Justice Arshad Ali on Friday heard an appeal against the Mansehra Civil Court verdict in a gang rape case.

A District and Sessions court in Mansehra had in 2015 sentenced the prime suspect Qari Naseer to 14 years in prison while his accomplice Faizan had been sentenced to 10 years in prison. The third suspect, Mushtaq Hussain, had been acquitted.

In 2015, a student of a private school had left her college at around noon when a female friend offered to drop her home in her friend’s car. According to the FIR lodged, acquaintances of student’s female friend were present in the car. The acquaintances then raped the student and dumped her on a nearby road. Police had arrested four suspects including Naseer, Anam Saleem, Faizan and Hussain and charged them.
