He said this while chairing a meeting of the newly-elected managing committee of Mango Growers Cooperative Society in Multan on Friday.
He showed great concern over water shortages for agricultural purposes and demanded that such an emergency be imposed in the country. He said special initiatives should be taken to build water conserving canals and courses to minimise losses.

Gardezi maintained that access to a high efficiency irrigation system, which included solar tube wells, should be promoted.
On the occasion, participants demanded a vigilant approach by the agriculture department in research and extension of the horticulture sector.
They also demanded that Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) be established in mango growing tehsils, under a horticulturist as an agriculture officer.
