Falling share of agricultural exports

Mango is one among many fruits that make up for a significant share of Pakistan’s agricultural economy and its exports

LAHORE: According to a news report, Pakistan’s produce of mango for the past year was half its actual production capacity due to severe climate change and water shortage for irrigation purpose. Mango is one among many fruits that make up for a significant share of Pakistan’s agricultural economy and its exports. With mango, other crop yields too are likely to suffer the effects of climate change which is not being dealt with here on emergency basis. Not just the exports or the foreign exchange received via trade, but local market supply too has already begun to shrink.

As Pakistani exports are primarily from the primary and secondary sector of production, the government should implement protective measures for goods that are a major contributor to foreign exchange earnings.
