Foreign aid should not be taken from countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Iran.
KARACHI: This is with reference to your report of May 17 titled “It’s time to say ‘no’ to foreign aid: Shahbaz Sharif”.
I would add that foreign aid should also not be taken from countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Iran. We have seen, over the past few decades, how money from such places has made many people obsessed with religion and this, has led to sectarianism. The result is also a population which lives on conspiracy theories, is perpetually in denial and blames everyone but itself for its problems. Those who live in such a society believe that they are the guardians of everyone’s faith and that it must be defended at all costs.
