PESHAWAR: After reviving the party, the provincial chapter of the MMA constituted its provincial cabinet on Wednesday, electing JUI-F’s Maulana Gul Naseeb as its president and JI’s Abdul Wasiay as the general secretary.

During a meeting of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) provincial council, held at the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) provincial headquarter Al-Markaz-e-Islami under the supervision of MMA Central General Secretary Liaquat Baloch, members of the cabinet were elected.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan’s (JUP) Fayaz Khan was elected as the senior vice president of MMA for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

Dr Iqbal Khaleel from the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Fazal Rehman Madni of Jamiat Ahle Hadith (JAH) and Allama Hameed Hussain Imami of Islami Tehreek Pakistan (ITP) were elected as vice presidents of the religious parties alliance.

Newly elected deputy general secretaries of MMA K-P chapter include Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) Maulana Shujaul Mulk and Maulana Merajuddin, JAH’s Dr Zakir Shah and ITP’s Akhunzada Muzaffar Ali.

JI’s Noorul Haq was elected as the information secretary while JUI-F’s Mufti Kifayatullah was elected as the finance secretary.

Baloch said that the MMA’s central cabinet and organizational structure has been finalized. With elections for the cabinet positions in K-P chapter completed, the focus will now shift to the forming structures at the district level.

The JI leader claimed that MMA’s Minar-e-Pakistan’s rally was the largest rally in the history of Pakistan where the MMA’s central leadership placed their agenda before the nation.

“Our government would end the ongoing political crisis in the country and the public is already eyeing the MMA,” he said as he hoped that their party will emerge as a powerful force in the upcoming general elections.

Regarding the alliance’s political campaign, Baloch said that they would start campaign rallies after Eid while the holy month of Ramazan will be spent by building momentum over iftaar gatherings.

“We demand elections on the specified time,” Baloch said, as he demanded that “the names of the caretaker government should also be announced and fair elections are conducted.”

Referring to the crisis in Palestine, he said that they would mark May 18 as a solidarity day with Palestinians.

He also stressed on the need to resolve issues of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and called it indispensable for national security.

JUI-Fs’ Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said that the public received nothing but hopelessness in the past 70 years and now they were looking towards the MMA for a solution.
