‘80% inmates being imparted education in Sargodha district jail’

Three new barracks are being constructed to facilitate inmates

SARGODHA: At least 80% of the prisoners in district jail are being imparted education while the jails are being introduced as a source of rehabilitation.

This was said by Sargodha Jail Superintendent Syed Muhammad Anjum as he spoke to Express News on Wednesday.

Urging the need to make every prisoner a student or a teacher, he said that all inmates will be provided such facilities in future. He pointed out that three new barracks were being constructed to facilitate the inmates.

“There are 1,317 prisoners of which 1,023 are studying various courses which include Matric, FA and BA,” he said.

He added that in a bid to provide a rehabilitation environment, special arrangements were being made and the prisoners will be provided counseling with the cooperation of experts.

Anjum said that the prisoners were also being given access to various sports in an attempt to provide them healthy activities. He elaborated that the visitors will be provided, shade, cold water and other facilities. The jail superintendent said that special arrangements will be made in the month of Ramzan to provide Sehr and Iftar to the prisoners and they would be provided chicken six times a week along with other food items.

He mentioned, “The record of all prisoners coming to the jail is being computerised which will help in tracking the history record of all the inmates.”
