Justice Asif Khosa to be acting CJP for two weeks

Lawyers and representatives of the SC were all present

ISLAMABAD: Justice Asif Saeed Khosa on Monday took oath as acting Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) in Justice Mian Saqib Nisar's absence.

Justice Gulzar Ahmed administered the oath. The oath-taking ceremony was held in the Supreme Court's (SC) main building in Islamabad. Justice Khosa will serve as acting chief justice until incumbent CJP Mian Saqib Nisar returns to the country from a foreign visit.

The CJP is flying out of Pakistan for two weeks.

Judges of the SC attended the ceremony. All advocates general and leaders of Pakistan Bar Council and Supreme Court Bar Association were also present.

The registrar of the SC also attended the ceremony along with senior lawyers.

On December 31, 2016, Justice Nisar was sworn in as the 25th chief justice of Pakistan.

Justice Nisar replaced Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, who retired on December 30, after serving as the chief justice for 15 months since his appointment in September 2015. President Mamnoon Hussain administered the oath to Justice Nisar.

Then prime minister Nawaz Sharif, members of the cabinet, judges of the Supreme Court, and services chiefs were among those present at the occasion.
