QUETTA: More than 12 million deaths occur worldwide annually due to high blood pressure or hypertension. This condition is increasing the death rate in Balochistan too, which is a cause for concern in various segments of society. In order to overcome this problem, there is a dire need to bring change in daily lives.

These views were shared by Balochistan Health Secretary Saleh Muhammad Nasir while addressing a seminar arranged for creating awareness about hypertension by the Cardio Department of Bolan Medical College (BMC).

The health secretary said, “Exercise along with proper diet can counter hypertension.”

Nasir further said, “At government level, measures for establishment of a cardiovascular institute in the next developmental budget are under consideration.”

He added that as members of the health department were related to a sacred profession, “they must fulfil their duties whole-heartedly”.

The best exercises for bringing the blood pressure under control are walking, jogging and swimming.

Taking over the dais, BMC Medical Superintendent Dr Farid Sumalani said, “Every third person between 39 to 50 years of age is a victim of hypertension.”

He advised the youth to get their blood pressure checked on a regular basis.

“Hypertension can be defeated through exercise and healthy diet,” he added.
