QUETTA: A man’s eyes were gouged out by his father and brothers after he expressed his desire to marry of his own free-will in Naseerabad area of Loralai district on Sunday.

On information, police reached the scene and apprehended the father along with the brothers.

The injured was rushed to Civil Hospital, Quetta for medical treatment, but due to the absence of an eye specialist, the injured was referred to the Helpers Eye Hospital.

However, the victim Abdul Baqi could not be immediately treated at the hospital as the eye specialist was not present there either.

According to sources, Abdul Baqi was subjected to torture with his eyes being gouged out by his father and brothers over showing interest in marrying a girl, who belongs to the Duki area.

“The man has lost both his eyes,” confirmed a police official of the area.

Detailing his ordeal, Abdul Baqi said, “They [father and brothers] locked my mother in another room and tied me up with a rope. Then they gouged my eyes out with a spoon and chopped them to pieces with a knife.”

He further said, “I liked a girl from Duki. My father and brothers were not happy with my choice. They often used to tell me that they will never allow me to marry a girl who keeps chatting on the mobile phone with me. They told me that they were ‘mullas’ (religious men) and cannot bear such a relation.”

A brother of victim, who was not present at the time of the mishap, has appealed to the government for assistance in treating his brother.
