Spreading scientific research need of the hour: speakers

Urge media outlets to give proper space, beats to sciences and technology

FAISALABAD: There is a need for enhanced efforts on the part of experts, media, educational and research institutions for spreading scientific advancement in different segments of society. We should fight social taboos to address peoples’ problems for a better tomorrow.

These views were expressed by speakers during a seminar titled “Challenges and opportunity for communicating science” at University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Thursday. The event was arranged by the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialisation, UAF, in collaboration with the Pakistan Science and Information Technology Center (PASTIC), a press release issued stated.

While chairing the session, UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar said, “Researches must not be piled up in the libraries. It must reach at doorstep of farmers and people.”



He said advancements in technology being carried out in the country were not implemented in our lives due to lack of communication of modern knowledge. He urged the media persons to enhance the coverage of science and technology that will bring progress in the society.

The VC maintained, “With the passage of time, behaviour issues such as impatience are deepening in the society. Experts and elders have to play their effective role for the betterment of the society.”

PASTIC Director General Dr Muhammad Sheikh said that all mediums of media, such as social, electronic and print should be used to promote modern researches. He said, “A lot of research work is being carried out in the country but it is not being transferred into goods and services properly.”

He added that an innovative idea could change ones life. He said that we had to enhance the people engagement in the scientific activity and to communicating scientific advancement in the society.
