A gynaecologist in the UK caused an unborn baby to be decapitated inside the mother's womb as she carried out a botched delivery.

A tribunal was told in Manchester that Dr Vaishnavy Laxman, 41, who should have treated the 30-year old patient with an emergency Caesarean section due to the breech position of the premature infant, attempted to carry out a nature delivery.

The unfortunate incident took place when the practitioner urged the woman to push while applying traction to the infant's legs.

The attempt caused the baby's legs, arms and torso to get detached, while the head remained in his mother's womb.

Subsequently, two other doctors performed a C-section on the woman to remove the infant's head, which was reattached to the body so his mother could hold him in her arms before saying goodbye.

It has been claimed that the victim's mother was not even in an any established labour at the time.

At the tribunal, the mother saw Laxman in the court and shouted. "I don't forgive you, I don't forgive you' as the doctor stared down at the floor."
