Sugar mill owners crushing farmers instead of sugar cane: CJP

Court summoned the incumbent and previous administration of the sugar mill

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday expressed his displeasure while hearing a case pertaining to the remuneration of farmers and remarked that sugar mill owners are crushing farmers instead of sugar cane, Express News.

Justice Nisar, heading the bench, said the Brother Sugar sugar mills had not crushed sugar during the current year and also owed dues to farmers from last year.

“They will have to pay the dues,” he added.

Sugar mill owners summoned by Supreme Court

Justice Aijaz ul Hasan further questioned if the previous dues will be cleared by the current administration.

The court also summoned the incumbent and previous administration of of the sugar mill and directed Mian Nishat, Humayun Rasheed and Aslam Bashir to appear in person.

The apex court further ordered them to bring the record containing details of the sales conducted by the mills along with the record of court proceedings up till now.
