PM urges world to stop bloodbath of Kashmiris

Abbasi flays rights violations by Indian forces

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi slammed “systematic brutalities, killing of innocent civilians, and human rights violations by Indian security forces with impunity”.

“Indian terrorism has recently resulted in the killing of 14 people in the past 36 hours. The denial of access to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the OIC Permanent Human Rights Commission is proof of Indian oppression and guilt,” PM Abbasi said in a statement here on Monday,

“Indian security forces have recently unleashed a reign of terror against the Kashmiri people; the Hurriyat leadership has been arrested and peaceful protesters are being constantly terrorised and maimed by gunfire and pellet shots,” PM Abbasi said on Monday.

“The continued inhuman oppression by Indian of five generations of Kashmiris struggling for a just, fair and legitimate right to self-determination calls in question the collective conscience of the world.”



The people of the world must raise their voice against Indian oppression and world leaders must unite to save the victimised and brutalised women, children and youth of Kashmir, he said.

“In particular, we call upon the United Nations to play its role to stop the bloodbath of Kashmiris and enforce their inalienable right to self-determination.”



On Friday, Azad Kashmir’s Special Cabinet Committee took measures to protect civilians living along the Line of Control (LoC) from Indian shelling. These steps included granting approval to set up first aid posts along the LoC, providing doctors, paramedics and medicines to basic health units located near the LoC, providing subsidy on timber for rebuilding houses damaged by Indian shelling, extending mobile phone services up to the LoC, extending services of Rescue 1122 to affected areas, waiving arms licence fee and setting up village defence committees, according to a statement by the AJK government.

The AJK panel also approved payment of compensation amounting to Rs1 million to families of the martyred, Rs800,000 to people by Indian firing or shelling and Rs300,000 extra to those critically injured. Families affected by Indian shelling or firing would also be provided financial help for rebuilding damaged houses, destroyed businesses and moveable and immoveable assets.

The meeting also approved releasing funds for district administrations along LoC for “swift and immediate help” to victims of Indian shelling.



It also approved the setting up of medical boards at district and tehsil headquarters hospitals to assess and recommend expenses for treating those injured by Indian shelling.

On April 2, the federal cabinet held a special meeting under the PM on worsening human rights situation in the occupied valley and decided to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day on April 6 in support of the Kashmiri people. Kashmir Solidarity Day is originally observed every year on February 5.
