KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) deferred the hearing of a petition challenging a law enacted by the Sindh government to curtail the operation of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Sindh.

The case could not be taken up as one of the judges of the three-member bench, Justice Munib Akhtar, was elevated to the apex court, leaving the bench dissolved.

The petition against the changes in the NAB law had been filed by the Muttahida Quami Movement - Pakistan, Pasban-e-Pakistan and other groups.

The petitioners had adopted the stance that the Sindh government had enacted the new law to stop NAB's action against provincial departments and officers.

The court ordered NAB to continue its actions, while the Sindh government has been asked not to interfere.

Due to the posting of Justice Akhtar in the apex court, the hearing has been deferred till the constitution of a new bench.
