A Chinese national who opened the emergency exit gate on a plane because the aeroplane was "too stuffy and hot," was fined 1,000 pounds, reported The Independent.

The national, Chen, was detained by the authorities for two weeks following the incident at Nanjiao Airport in southwest China. The plane had safely landed when Chen pulled open the door.

Chinese authorities told a local newspaper, South China Morning Post Post, that the 25-year-old said that he had waited in the plane aisle for ten minutes as passengers left the plane, but because the temperature, he opened the door.

"I just pushed down on the window handle beside me," he reportedly told investigators. "When the door fell out, I panicked." Chen was then immediately arrested by the airport police officials and handed to Mianyang Public Security Bureau personnel, who kept him in detention and questioned him for 15 days.

The civil aviation administration said that Chen’s actions caused major flight delays, and the work bill to rectify his mistake is worth 100,000 Yuan, roughly £11,500.
