Around 3.8 million children under the age of five to 14 work in the country

KARACHI: Child labour is an ever-growing social problem in Pakistan. Around 3.8 million children under the age of five to 14 work in the country. This causes negative impact on the mental, physical, moral and social life of the children. Thus it is a very complex problem which demands immediate solution. The authorities concerned should pay urgent attention to this humanitarian issue.

According to Article 25(A) of the Constitution, the state has to provide compulsory education to all children between the ages of five and 16.

This means a child shouldn’t be working under the age of 16. The government should ensure that suitable steps are taken to adhere to the Constitution, in order to save the future of these children and that of Pakistan.
